Descriptive Essay
"My Weekend Love Affair at Kittitian Hill"
If there is one thing that makes me light up like a child in a candy store, it is the love for food. I am a self proclaimed, full on foodie, and I proudly wear that title. Living in St. Kitts, I am lucky to be surrounded by amazing food options that blend Caribbean zest with international flavours. It is almost like the island is teasing me with new culinary adventures every week. Given the opportunity to explore different flavours, textures, and dishes brings me so much joy. It is more than just eating but an immersive experience. On the weekends, I dedicate my time to explore the best culinary spots around town, sampling dishes that catch my eye and delight my palate. From local favourites to hidden ones, the experience is always a new adventure, but I never miss a stop at Kittitian Hill, where the food and atmosphere make every bite feel like a celebration.
Kittitian Hill is filled with history, especially when making connections with the Sugar Industry in St. Kitts, which once made the island one of the top exporters in the Caribbean. The natural sensory, the sweeping views, the cool mountain air, and that sense of being tucked away from the rest of the world can stimulate minds for both local and visitors, making them feel at ease. The beauty alone sets the tone for what is about to be an extraordinary dining experience. Any visitor can really feel that legacy in the main restaurant, which is designed across two levels with five unique spaces that each have their own story to tell. On the Upper Level, is ‘The Mill Bar,’ which brings back memories of the island’s sugar heritage. Meanwhile, ‘The Mountain Terrace’ and ‘The Lounge’ offer cozy spots for guests to kick back and relax. Additonally, the lower level or the outdoor terrace, affectionately called ‘The Lookout,’is packed with some amazing views that make dining there even more special. Nestled in the lush, rolling hills of St. Kitts, the location itself is like something out of a magazine.
Whenever I visit Kittitian Hill, the menu always leaves me spoiled. The chefs there have a knack for honouring traditional Kittitian recipes while adding their own creative twist, which is why it is called “Belle Mont’s Farm-to-Table Experience.” Every dish reflects a deep connection to the island’s rich culinary heritage, with fresh ingredients sourced directly from local farmers and the farm itself. Buffet breakfast is served from 7:00 am to 10:30 am, and it never disappoints. Whether it is freshly baked pastries, tropical fruits, or savory options like local stew saltfish and plantains, there is something for every taste. No matter how many times I have visited, I always leave breakfast feeling completely satisfied and energized for the day ahead. However, dinner at The Kitchen, which runs from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, is no exception. The ambiance, with its warm lighting and scenic views, sets the perfect mood for a memorable evening. One dish that stands out most is the seafood pasta, made up of a combination of fresh, tender shrimp, losbster and mussels tossed in a rich, flavourful sauce that feels like a celebration of the island’s coastal offerings. This dish has quickly become my go to favorite, and no dining experience to Kittitian Hill feels complete without indulging in it. Whether it is breakfast or dinner, the experience at Kittitian Hill is always a culinary adventure that keeps me coming back for more.
My love for food is not just about satisfying hunger but to discover new tastes, connecting with different cultures, and sharing those experiences with friends and family. Every bite adds a new chapter to my foodie story. So, if you see me out and about on the weekends, probably with a menu in hand and an excited look on my face, just know I am doing what I do best, eating my way through life, one delicious bite at a time.
