It aims to build students' confidence in expressing their ideas clearly and effectively.

Unit 4

Writing characteristics and behaviours of primary students in the stages of writing

This unit has helped me gain a deeper understanding of the writing process, and it will undoubtedly make me a better practice teacher. By observing how students progress through the stages of writing from drafting to revising to editing I now have a clearer picture of how to guide them through each stage with more intentionality and support. For instance, I now realize that encouraging students to write multiple drafts without the pressure of perfection helps them build confidence in their ideas. I can apply this approach in my own classroom, knowing that fostering a safe space for trial and error is crucial for growth. Moreover, the content has given me a greater appreciation for the role of language development in writing. As a practice teacher, I can now be more mindful in encouraging students to expand their vocabulary and apply spelling and punctuation rules in their writing. By emphasizing high-frequency words, technical vocabulary, and spelling patterns, I can help students become more precise and confident writers.

Overall, this unit has reinforced the importance of providing continuous support throughout the writing process, allowing students to experiment, revise, and refine their work. With this understanding, I feel more prepared to guide my students through their writing journeys, helping them develop not only their writing skills but also their confidence as young communicators.
